Gloss, Matte And Fashion Color PPF: The Complete Guide
By The Golden State Auto Salon Team · September 23, 2026
All three protect the paint the same way. The difference is how you want the car to look when you are done.
Clear Gloss PPF
The classic. Clear gloss film is invisible on the car, keeps the factory finish looking exactly as it did, and adds a slight extra depth to the gloss. This is what most people picture when they hear PPF, and it is the right choice if you love your paint as it is.
Stealth Matte PPF
Matte film turns gloss paint into a satin, factory matte look while protecting it at the same time. It is fully removable, so the gloss paint is still there underneath when you want it back. Matte and satin finishes should never be polished or waxed; a pH neutral hand wash keeps them looking right.
Fashion Color PPF
Fashion Color PPF changes the color of the car with the same thick, self healing film, instead of vinyl. You get hundreds of colors in gloss, satin and matte, protection against rock chips, and a 10 year warranty on most films. When you want the original color back, the film peels off and the factory paint underneath is protected.
Which One Should You Pick?
- Love the factory color: clear gloss
- Want a stealthy satin look without repainting: stealth matte
- Want a whole new color and real protection: Fashion Color PPF
